OUGD602: Personal and Professional Practice - Studio Brief One: Design Strategy Presentation

As we are at a interim point in our final year, we have been asked to present our manifesto outlining the progress we have made so far; what briefs we have undertaken, what briefs we are still yet to do, what we have engaged with and our plans for the future following the course. Therefore I felt it was the perfect opportunity to look back at the presentation I produced at the start of the year outlining my plan for the academic year in order to effective document and analyse my progress.

In terms of my statement of intent which I devised at the beginning of the year - "I am a concept driven Graphic Designer with a particular emphasis on the exploration of hand-rendered and mixed medias to achieve interactive design outcomes" - I don't believe my design intentions have developed much.

My priorities still lie with producing unique concepts with the aim of enticing the audience, which is evident within the interactive mail shot I designed and produced last semester with the intended purpose of sending out to agencies and studios I am interested in with the hope of a visit or placement. I chose to create a mail shot which doubles up as a fortune teller which enable the receiver to directly interact with the product itself, not only does the concept evidence my specific interests within the field but would hopefully attract the attention of the receiver.

I have always enjoyed creating concepts and ideas which I personally felt have been creative and engaging I have always felt that my final outcomes always lack in the quality needed for industry level and therefore I would ideally like to work within a agency in a more conceptual role such as an art director.

One field I did consider working within was advertising as I felt it would give me scope to be really creative with ideas, therefore I set out to undertake two advertising campaign briefs this year. I working on a campaign for Ebon Chocolates during the first semester as part of the CoP module which I did not really enjoy and therefore I may revise the second advertising brief.

One brief I undertook during the first semester which I enjoyed more than I expected was the Hoax Exhibition book, I've never particularly enjoyed editorial design however I found that designing DPS for the book gave me a lot of scope to be creative and experimental which is something I relished. Currently I am working on a collaborative brief with Jane in which we are designing and producing a range or children's books which I am really enjoying.
