OUGD502: Personal Professional Practice 2 - Studio Brief 1: Design Strategy, Contacting Studios

So far during my second year on the course I have been quite lax about contacting studios and arranging a placement for the summer despite this being one of the ambitions I had for my second year on the course.

As I am from Liverpool and will be living there during the summer break, I began researching into the existing studios and any creative opportunities.

An interesting thing I found was an article in the cites newspaper, The Echo was a article about a local designer Adam Irwin who is behind the project 'Branding Merseyside' in which he has challenged himself to create a distinct identity for the different suburbs of the city.

Throughout my time on the second year I have particularly enjoyed the branding briefs we have been given such as 'Design For Print and Web' for OUGD504 and 'Design Presence' for OUGD502 and this is definitely an area of design I would like to explore in my design practice, therefore I took a look at the 'Branding Merseyside' website.

The aesthetic of the different identities Adam Irwin has created are simplistic, vector -based designs with an emphasis on ideas which is similar to the work I producing in my practice.

After visiting Adam Irwin's personal website I discovered he is involved in many creative projects around the city, and currently works at Splinter design agency so I looked at their website to see what kind of work they were producing and contact them directly.

Contacting the studio to arrange a visit

I have also contacted the Coldlight agency, who are a brand communications agency in Liverpool.
